Honey appeared in my life, November 7, 2008. We met in the piazza of S. Stefano di Sessanio in front of the bar. I had called because I went from the town take a look at a new stray dog \u200b\u200bthat looked very aggressive. I do not do either the veterinarian or behaviorist, but here in the area all know me and know that I work as a volunteer, of stray dogs and have some experience with dogs (and cats). I arrived in town and I started to get me a ride to see if I found him (the others I know them all, so it was easy to spot the newcomer). He first came to meet me, but when I took the camera was pulled back carefully and gave me back. Those who understand something about the sign language (and not just canine) knows that this is anything but an ominous signal. In fact, after a couple of minutes I was approached quietly supported me and the nose on your hand (as you can see in the picture at the top of the post). After having done a bit 'of pampering I returned to our car to get the microchip reader to see if he could be identified a possible owner, since it showed clear signs on the neck and the collar could have been lost. To his misfortune he had not.
I could not do anything for him at that moment, if you do not greet him with a little 'of pampering.
I went into town to give some indication on the "procedures" be followed in such cases and pointing out what were the stray dogs to be sterilized again.
next few days I was contacted several times by people who live in S. Stephen and they were worried about the fate of Honey: was the object of abuse and feared for his safety. Unfortunately, it is still widespread (even in town) to the barbaric practice of using poisoned baits (and others), although it is now very risks (criminal offense), to get rid of the presence of animals "uncomfortable."
I wanted to take him home but could not, we are already full and I can not threaten to blow up the delicate balance of a pack already overcrowded (not easy to quell fights and brawls many dogs alone ...).
I tried to do my best to try to find accommodation for him, but it does not take a genius to realize that it is not something that can be solved in one day (miracles aside).
So what really happened in many feared: poisoned bait left in plain sight in the place that was more popular with Honey ... He has eaten. Rocco, a German shepherd owned by a boy, he has eaten and when he returned home he rivomitato everything. So even Jack (a Jack Russell terrier) has eaten the poison, though not released, only ingesting the vomit of his canine companion. Poor Jack now runs the Rainbow Bridge: the care of the veterinarian and antidotes were not enough to tear his little body to death after 15 hours of terrible agony.
Honey has disappeared for about 24 hours into the night leaving us to look to see if we could save, or if we just had to retrieve a body (if he were dead, he could be a danger to other animals or people ...). Rocco Miele, perhaps because of large size, have saved yourself. Jack is dead, but his place could easily be a child ...
Given the gravity of the situation as soon as notified of his reappearance, I rushed to take Honey to try to avoid putting him in danger and yet others ... We went by car and walking around all day looking for accommodation, while the city council met to decide not to do an agreement with a kennel.
the end I could only offer him a small fortune with only a fence tettoietta with a blanket and a platform with which to defend themselves from the chill of the mountain night. In short, he has found a way to climb over a fence first and then another ... and came to find me in the country. By now we were loyal to one another and for another two days we were always together but in the car ... the only way I could keep it with me without running away ... Always on the go from one place to another to walk a bit ... 'and then the road again ...
the morning of November 20, 2008 we went together, once again, to St. Stephen, in common, to see To what extent were the practices. We have been given the ok to go to L'Aquila in ASL to put the microchip made payable to the municipality of Santo Stefano. It was a formality, but without which honey could not be accepted anywhere. He was also made a blood test on leishmaniasis, wormed and put the exterior of a pesticide. Then we left for Lecce in Marsi, where very reluctantly because I am very fond of us, I had to leave him in custody at the Doghouse Marsicano . There is still waiting for someone to go and visit him and shot that famous sparkle ...
I really hope that it should not wait a long time ... I know that there is safe and is accompanied by 5 other little dogs, but it hurt me to leave it the same ...
